Peter and Lisa Nash grew up in the small community of Musquodoboit Harbour NS as childhood neighbours and high school sweet hearts, and ended up as a salmon fishing couple in Bristol Bay Alaska. In 2002, then a University Student at St. Marys in Halifax, NS, Peter was offered a job aboard one of his brother in laws freezer long liner vessels in Dutch Harbour, Alaska. Excited for the opportunity and adventure, he travelled to Alaska to embark on his first offshore fishing trip.
Immediately Peter fell in love with Alaska and its untamed beauty, as well as the hard work, camaraderie of the crew, and the lifestyle that being a commercial fisherman allowed. “I instantly knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life on the water, catching fish.” He then began his career fishing Pacific Cod, Halibut, and Sable fish on the Bering Sea.
In 2007, Peter spent a month halibut fishing with a fellow crewman, who told stories of summers in Bristol Bay salmon fishing with his sons, and knew he wanted to get involved. He flew back to Seattle, and invested in a permit and boat of his own, the Arctic Knight.
Almost ten years later, Lisa joined Peter on the Arctic Knight and also fell instantly in love with Bristol Bay and the salmon fishery; “I spent a week on the boat with these guys, watching and learning the hard work and skill that goes into carefully harvesting each fish, and I cant wait to go back and get my hands dirty!”. They decided it was time to share this with their Nova Scotia community, and that’s when BucksWild Seafoods was born. Someday they plan to have the whole family on board, bringing their two children along each summer for the adventure.
